administration of salvianolic acid b attenuates learning and memory deficits in diabetic rats: involvement of oxidative stress
Authors
abstract
background and objective: based on the effect of chronic metabolic diseases including diabetes mellitus on the learning and memory, this study was designed to assess the usefulness of administration of salvialonic acid b on lessening of learning and memory deficits in streptozotocin (stz)-diabetic rats. materials and methods: male wistar rats were allocated into control, salvialonic acid b-treated control, diabetic and salvialonic acid b-treated diabetic groups. salvialonic acid b was administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg/day for 8 weeks. assessment of learning and memory was performed by y maze and passive avoidance tests. moreover, oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde (mda) was also measured. results: the results showed that in diabetic rats, alternation score in y maze and retention and recall in passive avoidance test decreased in comparison with control rats (pconclusion: taken together, these results show that salvialonic acid b could improve learning and memory deficits in stz-diabetic rats by reduction of lipid peroxidation.

full textProtective role of vitamin-D on chronic stress induced-learning and memory deficits in rats
Introduction: Long-term stress disturbs HPA axis and increases glucocorticoids release, which disturbs neural plasticity in the hippocampus and may lead to learning and memory deficits. Noticeably, vitamin D plays a protective role in the nervous system and has receptors in the hippocampus. This behavioral study investigates the possible protective role of vitamin-D against the negative effects...
full textSalvianolic acid B attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury in rats through inhibition of apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation.
The present study was performed to assess the protective effect of salvianolic acid B on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI). Sprague Dawley rats were injected with 100 µg/kg LPS through a 24-gauge catheter. One group of rats was pre-treated with salvianolic acid B (1 mg/ml; 20 ml/kg body weight) 1 h prior to LPS challenge, then 20 ml/kg salvianolic acid B every 2 days for ...
full textEnalapril attenuates oxidative stress in diabetic rats.
Oxidative stress is involved in both the pathogenesis and complications of diabetes. ACE inhibitors can slow the progression of cardiac and renal impairments related to diabetes. The effect of enalapril treatment on oxidative stress and tissue injury was studied in hearts, kidneys, and livers from streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Twenty-four rats were divided into the following groups: str...
full textVitamin D3 attenuates oxidative stress and cognitive deficits in a model of toxic demyelination
Objective(s):Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease. The prevalence of MS is highest where environmental supplies of vitamin D are low. Cognitive deficits have been observed in patients with MS. Oxidative damage may contribute to the formation of MS lesions. Considering the involvement of hippocampus in MS, an attempt is made in this study to investigate the effects of vitamin D3 on...
full textMetformin ameliorates learning and memory deficits in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) in long-term is associated with learning and memory decline. Metformin is an anti-diabetic drug with antioxidant and memory-improving effects. Thus, this research study was conducted to assess the effect of metformin on learning and memory in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In the present study, male Wistar rats (n=32) were randomly assign...
